Where do we begin when we are profiling, reviewing, and looking at fragments of artistic expressions coming from Generation Z? Conveniently termed from the alphabetical order which came after generation X and Y, these terms do not carry or embody any weight i.e. meaning or context but just derived out from labels generated through popular culture in the 1990s1. Believe it or not, “Generation X” is named after a title of a novel by Douglas Coupland who was inspired by the name of Billy Idol’s original punk band. That is how imperative, powerful and infectious popular culture can be. Nonetheless, it is we, each individual unit within each labelled generation that collectively put meaning and context into the generational terms. On another relatable note, don’t we see snippets of the 90s and Y2K zeitgeist are also back in the current mainstream?
